abstract

in this study we have described our varicocele cases in terms of associated symptoms/signs. in addition, we have tested the correlation between semen parameters and varicocele grades and compared the relative frequencies of associated symptoms/signs in different varicocele grades. 1 19 referred cases of varicocele were categorized based on clinical criteria into 3 grades by one examiner. the relative frequencies of associated symptoms/signs of the grades were compared. 52 of the cases whose semen analyses were performed at the same laboratory were included for comparison of semen parameters. most of the cases were single conscripts. age range was 1 8 to 38 years and the mean age was 23 years. pain was the most common associated finding in our mostly single physically active cases. of all the 1 19 cases, 9 were grade 1 , 63 grade 2, and 47 grade 3. mean sperm concentration was 60.3 million per cubic centimeter. no significant difference was found in the relative frequencies of associated symptoms/signs among different grades. difference in semen parameters among grades was negligible and not significant at 0. 1 (0.05 as well). pain could be the most common associated finding in young single physically active varicocele cases. it seems that varicocele grade bears no significance over the relative frequencies of associated symptoms/signs. our data is against any clinically and/or statistically significant relationship between varicocele size and semen parameters.

P-11: Varicocele Improved Semen Quality and Chromatin Integrity in Normozoospermic and Non-Normozoospermic Varicocele Individual

Background: Varicocele is related with poor semen quality and sperm chromatin integrity which possibility decreases the spontaneous pregnancy potential. Some of the varicocele individuals have normal semen parameters with failed pregnancy. It is also one of the most controversial issues in the field ofinfertility, especially regarding why, when and for whom varicocelectomy should be implemented...

Semen quality and oxidative stress scores in fertile and infertile patients with varicocele.

OBJECTIVE To compare semen quality and levels of seminal oxidative stress among three groups: infertile men with varicocele, fertile men with varicocele, and healthy semen donors (controls) without varicocele. DESIGN Prospective study. SETTING Academic medical centers. INTERVENTION(S) None. PATIENT(S) Semen specimens were obtained from 21 infertile patients with varicocele, 15 fertile m...

Beneficial effects of varicocele embolization on semen parameters

BACKGROUND The value of varicocele repair and the latter's impact on semen parameters are still subject to debate. METHODS We analyse changes over time in initially abnormal sperm parameters and serum concentrations of testosterone, FSH and inhibin B after embolization treatment of males with high-grade varicocele. From 2007 to 2012, we recruited 47 male infertile patients with clinically vis...

Impact of Surgical Varicocele Repair on Pregnancy Rate in Subfertile Men With Clinical Varicocele and Impaired Semen Quality: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials

PURPOSE To elucidate the impact of surgical varicocele repair on the pregnancy rate through new meta-analyses of randomized clinical trials that compared surgical varicocele repair and observation. MATERIALS AND METHODS The PubMed and Embase online databases were searched for studies released before December 2012. References were manually reviewed, and two researchers independently extracted ...

The effect of magnified bilateral varicocele ligation on semen quality and the natural paternity rate in subfertile men, based on the sum of varicocele grading

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of magnified bilateral varicocele ligation on the semen quality and natural paternity rate in subfertile men, based on the sum of varicocele grading. PATIENTS AND METHODS In a prospective longitudinal study, 78 patients (mean age 36.5 years, range 21-56) with a total of 156 varicoceles underwent bilateral varicocele ligation. Patients included had bilateral, p...
